HSE Coordinator – Abbeville, SC

Job Summary
Responsible for the duties associated with safety, workers compensation, and environmental compliance and assisting the appointed management representative for the environmental and safety management systems in place for Flexible Technologies. Ensures compliance of the federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations and internal facility policies and programs. This position will report to the Director of HSE.

Essential Functions
Safety and Health
• Spends 50% of time interacting with production personnel on all shifts about safety and health matters
• Involved with production team roundtable discussions concerning safety improvements
• Recommends safety improvements to the Operations Manager
• Records recommended safety improvements and verification of completion
• Works closely with SWAT team (employee driven safety team) and attends meetings
• Maintains OSHA logs and incident reports
• Follows-up with corrective actions
• Assign and assist with risk assessments for new and current equipment or processes
• Conducts site inspections
• Manage SDSs
• Works with Human Resources, HSE Director, and Manufacturing Managers with training content, conduction of training, and recording of training

Environmental
• Monitors Hazardous Waste and works with trained persons on shipments
• Samples Storm Water and conducts quarterly assessments
• Checks water usage daily and coordinates water sampling
• Report submittals for Hazardous Waste, Tier ll, and Abbeville Water
• Records the monthly environmental usage data, energy, water, waste, recycling, etc. in Smiths’ PRISM for Flexible Technologies
• Assists HSE Director with environmental spills

Secondary Functions
• Interacts with Human Resources and HSE Director on matters pertaining to workers compensation
• Schedule fire and tornado drills
• File and manage legal documents
• Updates bulletins as necessary

Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma. Associate degree preferred, but not required
Experience: Minimum of 4 years HSE experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Essential Skills: Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong interactive personal skills and people-oriented
High standard of confidentiality

HazWoper 24 hour training
